HELL'S KITCHEN — Two outdoor bars are coming to Pier 78 this summer, giving visitors a chance to enjoy a drink and some food along the water in Hudson River Park.

Existing Pier 78 restaurant Docklands has applied for a permit for a bar for its existing 128-person patio for the summer, according to liquor license application documents. Docklands' owners, Three Brothers Baking Inc., also hope to open a 74-person open-air bar called Pier Side Cafe at the West 38th Street pier, documents show.

The applications to open the two outdoor spots come after park officials said that a long-awaited, 6,000-square-foot European-style beer garden will not open at the nearby Pier 62 this year.

Pier 78 is home to the Citysights NY Ferry Terminal and draws thousands of tourists and party-goers through it every week. The two patios would let those travelers grab a drink or a bite and enjoy the pier during warm weather, the owners said.

Pier Side Cafe will serve standard breakfast items like egg and cheese sandwiches, plus hot sandwiches, wraps, panini, pastas and smoothies, along with offering a full bar.

Docklands will have more sit-down fare, including wings, soups, burgers and nachos.

Pier Side Cafe will close nightly at midnight, while Docklands will stay open until 1 a.m. during the week and 3 a.m. on weekends.

The restaurants' owners did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The opening dates have not yet been announced.
