RED HOOK — What’s better than grilled cheese? Free grilled cheese.
Brooklyn Slate Company is doling out free farmhouse cheddar grilled cheese sandwiches next weekend in celebration of April 12’s National Grilled Cheese Day.
This is the second year that the company, which makes slate cheese boards and coasters, will be cooking up a spread for Red Hook at its 305 Van Brunt St. store from noon to 4 p.m.
"Last year was such a success that we decided to make it an annual event," said Kristy Hadeka, a co-owner of Brooklyn Slate, in a statement.
"We're excited to have folks come over and help us celebrate our favorite holiday of the year."
The grillers will be serving three kinds of sandwiches with farmhouse cheddar from Shelburne Farms in Vermont, according to a statement.
Greenpoint’s the Splendid Spoon will be offering tomato soup shots at the event with live music from the Milkman and Sons.
