Man Fatally Struck by 2 Train at Canal Street

HUDSON SQUARE — A 43-year-old man was killed by a northbound 2 train when he tried to cross the tracks at the Canal Street station early Saturday, according to police.

Law enforcement officials responded to a 2:30 a.m. 911 call about a person being struck, and upon arriving at the station at Canal and Varick streets they found the victim unconscious with severe injuries, police said.

Emergency responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene, according to police.

An initial investigation revealed that the man was trying to cross the train tracks from the southbound platform to the opposite side when he was struck by a northbound train.

The investigation was ongoing, police said.
