Police Arrest Sex Offender for Trying to Lure Girl Into SUV in Astoria

DITMARS — Police have arrested a homeless sex offender for attempting to lure a 12-year-old girl into an SUV in Astoria last week.

Houshang Hakimi, 69, allegedly drove up beside the girl last Wednesday afternoon as she was walking near Ditmars Boulevard and 49th Street and tried to draw her into the car, according to the NYPD.

Police said the suspect fled once the girl's babysitter approached.

Hakimi was arrested Monday and charged with acting in a manner injuring a child less than 17 years old and failure to report a change of address as a sex offender, according to the NYPD.  

Hakimi's arrest record was not immediately clear.
