QUEENS — The newest Queens brewery will showcase its beers during a tap takeover event in Glendale this weekend.

The Finback Brewery, which started brewing in Glendale in January, will present its beers on Friday, March 7, at Edison Place, a popular bar and restaurant at 71st Place and Cooper Avenue, which is celebrating its third anniversary this weekend.

During the event, the brewery will showcase four new beers, including Finback IPA, Puffin, which is a smoked porter, Double Sess(ion), a witbier brewed with ginger, Szechuan peppercorns and chamomile, and Marduk, a red IPA made “from massive amounts of dry hopping,” according to the brewery’s website.

“We love hoppy beers,” said Basil Lee, Finback’s co-founder. The brewery's suds are available at several bars specializing in craft beers, including Forest Hills Station House, jimmy’s no. 43, the Queens Kickshaw and the Owl Farm, but it will be the first time that they will be offered in Glendale.

Timothy Sullivan, the general manager at Edison Place, which also serves a number of local craft beers, including those from The Bronx Brewery, Blue Point Brewing Company and the Brooklyn Brewery, said the new brewery has created “a lot of buzz” in the neighborhood.

“Queens is a place where people take pride in their neighborhoods,” Sullivan said. “To be able to have a brewery in Glendale is very exciting to people.”

It’s also another example that the borough’s craft beer scene continues to grow, Sullivan said.

Queens is now home to several breweries, including SingleCut Beersmiths in Astoria, Rockaway Brewing Company and Big Alice Brewing in Long Island City and Bridge and Tunnel Brewery in Maspeth.

The owners of the Finback Brewery, located at 78-01 77th Ave., about eight blocks from Edison Place, are still working on a tasting room and hope to finish construction this spring.

During the event, which will include beer tasting, the brewery owners, Lee and his business partner, Kevin Stafford, will be around to meet and greet patrons.

“We want to showcase our beer in the neighborhood and in a way launch in Glendale,” Lee said.

Sullivan said the bar is “very excited to welcome a new kid on the block and show the neighborhood what they have to offer.”

The Finback Brewery tap takeover will begin on Friday, March 7, at 6 p.m. at Edison Place at 71-28 Cooper Avenue in Glendale.
