SOUTH STREET SEAPORT — It's like partying in the world's biggest, heated, igloo.

A 70-foot-long inflatable tent shaped like a giant ice cube is the hottest spot at the Seaport to hang out this month, with a lineup of free shows ranging from comedy stand up to salsa dancing.

The Front/Row stage at 14 Fulton St., which can fit 250 people inside along with a bar and food delivered to your table, is hosting performances by the Upright Citizens Brigade, DJ Felix Hernandez and the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra.

The temporary venue is part of Seaport developer Howard Hughes Corporation’s See/Change program, an effort to bring visitors to the Hurricane Sandy-devastated neighborhood, which remains dotted with closed storefronts.

The Front/Row “cube,” as Howard Hughes calls it, is being run in conjunction with Beekman Bites, a food truck on Front Street from the owners of Pier 17's shuttered Beekman Beer Garden.

Menu items include burgers starting at $5.50, tacos filled with grilled chicken, shredded beef or fish for $4 and fries sprinkled with white truffle oil and parmesan cheese for $8.

“We’ve been doing pretty well,” said John Ivers, the venue's general manager. “People have been coming in from the cold, having some food and drinks and staying for the shows.”

The cube, which launched on Jan. 17 next to the Seaport's ice rink, is open from noon to 11 p.m. daily. So far the space has mainly offered free shows Thursday through Sunday night, starting at 7 p.m., but Ivers said there will be performances nearly every night in February.

There will also be family-friendly concerts and shows starting at 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

The temporary tent is only set to run until March 1, but it may stay open longer.

“We are happy to offer this to the neighborhood,” Ivers said. “It's been a fun way to enjoy the Seaport."
