SOUTH STREET SEAPORT — A menswear brand inspired by Old New York is setting up shop in one of the city’s most historic neighborhoods.

Upscale menswear brand Gilded Age is opening its first store in the South Street Seaport, on cobblestoned Front Street.

“At our core, we’re a brand that takes a lot of inspiration from Old New York,” said owner and designer Stefan Miljanic. “This neighborhood is so unique and rich in history, we feel inspired by being part of this community now.”

The brand, which is sold in Bloomingdale's and high-end boutiques, as well as internationally, has had a showroom in SoHo, at 560 Broadway, since launching seven years ago.

“We’ve been looking for a retail store for a long time,” Miljanic said. “And now it’s great to be part of this neighborhood, as it’s rebuilding after the hurricane — we want to be part of its resurgence.”

To celebrate the new storefront, Gilded Age presented a show for Fashion Week in the 224 Front St. space on Wednesday.

Miljanic describes his clothes as a “casual luxury” brand. Designer jeans and sustainable, hand-crafted fabrics are integral parts of his line, he said. Jeans range in price from about $200 to upwards of $700.

He plans to officially open the store to the public early next week, after making a few more finishing touches to the shop.

Through a partnership with nonprofit arts organization Chashama, the store will also showcase the works of various city artists each month, Miljanic said.

This month, the store will feature the paintings of Victoria Schatz.

"Our clothes are inspired by the arts, by culture and by real craftsmanship," said Miljanic. "Having young artists display their work in our store really enhances our mission."
