New Health Center Helps Residents Get Insurance

MORRISANIA — A health center that helps residents in underserved communities sign up for insurance has opened on Southern Boulevard.

Health Information Place held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Jan. 24 to formally introduce the neighborhood to the center, whic serves Hunts Point, Mott Haven and Morrisania.

In operation since Dec. 2, Health Information Place works to enroll individuals in a health insurance plan that matches their needs. It runs from Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. As of Jan. 24, the organization has enrolled 3,000 individuals, according to Urban Health Plan, which runs the center.

The service is provided through the New York State of Health, a marketplace that helps people find and enroll in health insurance coverage.  The services are also offered in several languages.

Founded in 1974, Urban Health Plan works to enhance the health of underserved communities. The organization served more than 60,000 patients through more than 300,000 patient visits at 24 clinic sites, school-based clinics and part-time sites, according to a press release.
