MEATPACKING DISTRICT — A man who broke into a Meatpacking District restaurant last week and found the cash register empty grabbed a bottle of rum instead, police said.

The suspect yanked open the front door at Bar Nana at 63 Gansevoort St. about 3:30 a.m. Jan. 27, and headed for the cash register, police said. When he saw that there was nothing in it, he took a bottle of Appleton rum on his way out, police said.

The suspect then struck two other nearby restaurants, but he didn't take anything, police said.

He hit Macelleria at 48 Gansevoort St. at about 3:45 a.m., making his way in through the front door, police said. But he heard workers in the back of the restaurant and fled without taking anything, police said.

Then, at about 4:30 a.m., he pulled open the side door of Corsino Castina at 637 Hudson St. and made his way to the basement, but left empty-handed again, police said.

Police released surveillance photos from the Bar Nana break-in, showing a man wearing a black beanie under a white hoodie and white pants.
