DITMARS — More beer and cheese are on tap for Astoria.

Craft beer shop Astoria Bier and Cheese is expanding, opening up a second location this March in a former doctor's office at 35-11 Ditmars Blvd., as the blog We Heart Astoria first reported.

Owner Yang Gao — who also owns Astoria Wine and Spirits — opened the original Astoria Bier and Cheese in September 2012 at 34-14 Broadway, where he sells hundreds of kinds of bottled craft beers and dozens of cheeses, plus beer on tap so customers can take growlers of suds home.

"We've been getting a lot of traction here — the neighborhood response has been really, really positive," said the store's beer expert, Jacob Berg.

He added that they often heard from customers who live in the Ditmars area and wished the shop was closer.

"We wanted to offer the same option for people living on the north side of Astoria," he said.

The Ditmars Boulevard location, slated to open March 1, will offer the same items as the original store and is roughly the same size. It will also have a backyard, Berg said.
