QUEENS — A man suspected of butchering his young daughters and their mother inside their Jamaica home over the weekend was arrested in Texas Monday night, the NYPD said.

Miguel Mejia-Ramos, a 28-year-old Mexican native, was driving through Texas in a vehicle with New York plates when he was stopped by the U.S. Marshals Service in Schulenburg about 10:50 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

Investigators noticed that Mejia-Ramos had stab wounds and took him to an area hospital, an NYPD spokesman said. It was unclear when or how he sustained the wounds, but sources said they did not appear life-threatening.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Mejia-Ramos was arraigned Tuesday and is being held without bail in the Fayette County Jail. The sheriff's office also said that New York detectives were on their way to Texas to begin the extradition process. It was unclear how long the process will take.

Mejia-Ramos is suspected of fleeing New York after using four knives to stab his 21-year-old wife, Deisy Garcia, and their daughters Yoselin, 1, and Daniela Mejia, 2, inside their Sutphin Boulevard home on Saturday, police and sources said.

His wife and daughters lay undiscovered for nearly a day until a 12-year-old boy, who shared the home with the family and 11 others, found the bloodied bodies on Sunday evening, according to sources and relatives.

"He opened the door and saw my niece on the floor. The two babies were covered in a blanket," said the boy's father, Romeo Chuc, 37.

The brutality of the murders shocked even veteran law enforcement officials.

"I've been to hundreds of crime scenes. This was awful to see such young children the victims of such violence," Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Mejia-Ramos often berated Garcia, said Diana Villa, who attended the same church as the mother.

She added that Garcia adored her children.

"Everywhere she went, she went with the kids. She loved her kids. They were two angels," Villa said.
