Monday, Jan. 20

Exploring the rise of Brooklyn as a culinary hub, Brooklyn Magazine food editor Sarah Zorn will discuss the city's top food borough at the launch of her book "Brooklyn Chef's Table." Joining Zorn at the event at Strand Bookstore are local food luminaries Lenny Kern, who is chef and co-owner of the 70-year-old Brooklyn institution L & B Spumoni Gardens, and Jim Kokotas, owner of the beloved Prospect Heights diner Tom's Restaurant. Actress Isabella Rossellini explores mating rituals of insects and marine life in "Green Porno," a one-woman show adapted from the Sundance Channel series of the same name. BAM Fisher, Fishman Space, 321 Ashland Place, Fort Greene.

Friday, Jan. 24

A new panoramic film installation at the Whitney Museum of American Art displays the 360-degree view from artist T.J. Wilcox's Union Square penthouse. "T. J. Wilcox: In the Air" fills most of the second floor of the museum and explores immersive cinematic environments. New York magazine described the show as an "homage to our town’s creativity and the Manhattanhenge sunset, not to be missed and maybe never to be forgotten." Saturday, Jan. 25

The American Museum of Natural History offers a unique escape from the cold. Dense humidity, lush green plants and tropical butterflies of every color fill the room. Who would guess this is New York City in the middle of winter?
