QUEENS — A manager for the Queens Parks Department was arrested Sunday for allegedly sexually abusing a minor family member several years ago, police said.

Rene Herrera, 57, who worked as a manager for the Parks Department at The Overlook office in Forest Park in Kew Gardens, was arrested on Dec. 29 around 2:50 p.m. at his Queens home, police said.

Herrera abused his female relative, who was 11-years-old at the time, on three occasions, between October 2008 and September 2009, according to the criminal complaint.

A number of questions remain unanswered, including her relationship to Herrera and what prompted the police to make the arrest Sunday.

Herrera has been suspended without pay, a Parks Department spokesman said in an email.

Herrera's attorney could not be immediately reached for comment.
