DUMBO — The owners of Brooklyn Mac and Brooklyn Cupcake are closing their pop-up shops in DUMBO's Pearl Street mini mall. Brooklyn Cupcake ended its month-to-month lease earlier this month, while Brooklyn Mac is set to leave its space in January.
"A pop-up location for us is a chance to get a feel for a neighborhood before we settle in it," said Brooklyn Cupcake founder Carmen Rodriguez. "The DUMBO location ended up being a little slow."
Rodriguez's goods will be sold at the Mejlander & Mulgannon deli on Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge, where she plans to offer her homemade treats in flavors like french toast, peanut butter and jelly, and guava con queso. Her cupcakes are also available at the new Whole Foods in Gowanus and at her flagship store in Williamsburg.
Brooklyn Mac — a macaroni and cheese shop with vegan and vegetarian options — is also leaving DUMBO.
"We liked being in DUMBO and I think it’s a great little area, but it was time to leave," said the owner, Jeremy, who declined to give his last name. "It just didn’t work out in the space."
Customers can still find their unique mac n' cheese combinations — cheddar, broccoli, horseradish and smoked kielbasa sausage, or cheddar, grilled chicken, hot sause, and ranch flavoring — at their storefronts in Greenpoint and East Williamsburg.
What's on the horizon for the two Pearl Street spaces is still unknown.
"There is no one lined up to take their spaces yet," a representative from the building's landlord, Pearl Realty Management LLC, said.
