TRIBECA — The party’s over for a longtime live music venue in TriBeCa.
Canal Room, known for its regular '80s and '90s cover band nights, is being replaced by a high-end “mixology” bar and lounge called Haus, its new owners said Wednesday.
“We’ll be bringing in some of the world’s best mixologists, and making cocktails with fresh, organic ingredients,” said Paul Horowitz, Haus’s owner, told Community Board 1’s Tribeca Committee. “We’ll be doing away with live music, and creating more of a high-end lounge — this won’t be a club.”
Canal Room, which has been a fixture at 285 W. Broadway for the past 10 years, will be closing in the coming weeks to make way for Haus, the new management team said.
Haus will feature DJs and be available for corporate and other special events, Horowitz said.
Drinks on a preliminary cocktail menu, which didn't list prices, include a "French martini," made from vodka, Chambord and pineapple juice, and a “Patron Cosmopolitan" that includes tequila, fresh lime juice and cranberry juice.
The nearly 3,000-square-foot lounge will also serve small bites, such as Kobe beef sliders, and various flatbreads.
CB1's Tribeca Committee voted to support a 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. liquor license for Haus from Thursday to Sunday, with an earlier closing time, at 2 a.m., Monday through Wednesday. The owners of Haus will be able to return to CB1 nine months after opening if they want to extend their hours to 4 a.m. seven days a week, the board said.
"We've never had any complaints from that venue — it's not in a residential area " Peter Braus, the committee's chairman, told Haus's owner and management team. "But, we'll see you back after you've opened."
The owner is also planning on applying for a cabaret license.
"We're doing away with the dance floor, but if people want to dance, [we] want to make sure we're covered," said Horowitz, who has not owned a bar or restaurant before.
Manager Carlos Narcisse was a founding partner and creative manager of AER lounge in the Meatpacking District, and has worked at venues including the Chelsea Room, Pink Elephant, Bagatelle and EVR Lounge.
Haus representatives said they hope to open by late March or early April.
Canal Room, which hasn't announced its closing date yet, declined to comment.
