Brazilian Steakhouse Fogo de Chao to Open Across from MoMA

MIDTOWN — Some steak with your Cézanne?

The Brazilian steakhouse chain Fogo de Chao is opening its first New York location on West 53rd Street, across from the Museum of Modern Art, next Thursday, Dec. 19.

Spanning there floors and 16,000 square feet, the restaurant between Fifth and Sixth avenues will seat more than 300 diners and represents the largest among the chain's 31 locations.

“The Manhattan opening of Fogo de Chao is a major milestone in our 35-year history, on par with our arrival to the United States from Brazil in 1997,” restaurant CEO Larry Johnson said in a statement. “This has been a long time coming and we’re thrilled to have found the ideal location to introduce New Yorkers to our Brazilian culinary traditions.”

The restaurant specializes in "continuous service," with waiters circulating throughout the restaurant to carve 16 cuts of meat tableside. Desserts, cocktails and 200 wines will also be available.
