The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory Tuesday as the city was expected to be blanketed with up to 5 inches by a storm swinging up from the Southwest.
Flurries began around 8 a.m. and will intensify throughout the morning, finally tapering off about 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The Department of Sanitation is preparing for the messy weather by loading 365 salt spreaders, attaching plows to some of its trucks and preparing tire chains.
The high for the day should be about 36 degrees, with a low of 21 coming tonight, according to the NWS.
Tuesday’s snow should easily break the Dec. 10 record of 1.3 inches, set in 1932.
