GREENWICH VILLAGE — A food truck on its way to a film set for the police show "Blue Bloods" was trapped by a sinkhole at a Greenwich Village intersection, officials said.
The truck was heading east on 12th Street when it turned south on Fifth Avenue but stopped abruptly because a water main breach created a sinkhole that trapped its wheels about 9 a.m., said the driver and Department of Environmental Protection officials.
The truck, which belonged to Movie Kitchens, was headed to the nearby set of "Blue Bloods," a CBS drama centered around a powerful family in the NYPD, starring Donnie Wahlberg, Tom Selleck and Bridget Moynahan.
In the scene, which was filming on West 10th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, the police commissioner, played by Selleck, was meeting with a confidential informant, a worker on the set said.
The sinkhole itself was created when a small leak sprung from a 1908 water main 30 inches in diameter, DEP Commissioner Carter Strickland said at the scene.
''It looks like the surface expression is about 3 foot by 3 foot. It's always hard to tell how much undermining there is, but right now, it's about 5 feet deep," Strickland said.
Traffic was still running through the area and Strickland expected crews to mend the hole quickly.
The truck was removed from the hole and towed away.
