MANHATTAN — A man was shot and killed outside the door of his apartment building on Friday night, according to police.
Gregory Tate, 49, was found lying on the ground outside his home at 535 West 156th Street by officers responding to a 911 report of a shooting at 10:35 p.m., officials said.
The officers found Tate unresponsive and unconscious, with a single gunshot wound to the torso, police said. EMS transported the victim to nearby Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting were currently under investigation and no arrests had been made Sunday.
A neighbor who lives at 539 156th St. said she had heard a confrontation in the street and then multiple shots fired prior to police arriving at the scene.
"I'm not surprised at all," she said, adding that violence "seems to happen all the time" on the block.
