UPPER WEST SIDE — Local leaders are hosting a benefit Tuesday night for victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which killed thousands earlier this month in the Philippines.
The event, held at West 86th Street Irish pub The Parlour, will include live music from local bands The Breakup Artists and The Jump Kings.
The fundraiser will also feature a silent auction with contributions of either merchandise or services from local businesses, according to Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal's office.
Contributions will go International Rescue Committee, Doctors Without Borders or Catholic Relief Services, her office said.
The fundraiser has grown quickly with elected representatives from across Manhattan slated to attend, including City Councilwoman Gale Brewer, City Councilwoman-elect Helen Rosenthal, State Sens. Adriano Espaillat, Brad Hoylman and Jose Serrano, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, and dozens of others leaders from across the borough.
The death toll from the Nov. 8 typhoon is currently 5,235 people, according to The New York Times. Thousands were injured and are missing and millions of people's homes were destroyed, the paper reported.
The fundrasier runs from 7 to 11 p.m., and attendees will each get a drink on the house.
