COLUMBIA STREET WATERFRONT DISTRICT — A new event space is hosting an amateur talent night to give musicians, comedians and other performers a chance to be discovered.

Hangar 101 is planning the monthly event and inviting music executives and talent scouts to watch local artists perform, said manager Anthony Dimmino.

“We’re thinking about calling it ‘A Star is Born,’” said Dimmino.

Hangar 101, which started hosting events in August, includes a 3,000 square-foot indoor area, a 10,000 square-foot metal box building and a 10,000 square foot outdoor yard that can hold a dance floor, stage and a deck.

The space, located at 101 Hamilton Ave., can fit about 3,000 people, Dimmino said, adding that events can extend to another 1,600 square-foot space on the same block.

It can also be booked for private parties, weddings and concerts at $1,000 to $6,000 for four-hour blocks, depending on the size and scale of the event, he said.

Dimmino is hoping to bring the neighborhood into Hangar 101 through classical movie nights and regular bluegrass music evenings. He added that locals were welcome to make suggestions for possible events at the space.

“We are trying to be part of the larger community,” he said.
