MELROSE — Police were investigating a death on the train tracks of a Bronx subway station, and trains along the 2 and 5 lines were delayed through the afternoon Sunday following the incident.

Rescuers received an emergency 911 call at around 1:15 p.m. reporting a person on the tracks of the 2 train at East 149th Street and Third Avenue, fire officials stated.

Upon arrival, the person, whose identity and sex had not been confirmed, was found dead at the scene, officials said.

Police responded around 1:30 p.m. and began an investigation at the subway station, as 2 and 5 trains were rerouted temporarily. By 3:45 p.m., service was restored but delays were to be expected, the MTA posted on its website.

A spokeswoman for the NYPD said an investigation was ongoing, and she could not release any information about the identity of the deceased, or confirm if the investigation was of a criminal nature on Sunday afternoon.
