HUDSON HEIGHTS — A woman escaped a would-be rapist in Fort Tryon Park Friday afternoon, police sources said.

Police said the woman was in the park at noon when she was approached by a man who grabbed her and threatened to rape her, police said.

Police said the victim broke free and escaped the assailant.

A description of the suspect was not immediately available.

This is not the first violent incident in the park.

In late September, a mother jogging with her young son was jumped by a man who menaced her with a broken bottle. She fought him off with a bike pump, and he was charged with attempted rape. He was recently sentenced to six months in jail for menacing.

An Inwood mother walking with her young daughter in Fort Tryon Park in 2011 was punched and mugged. And another mother who was mugged while pushing a stroller with her 17-month old baby in the park was attacked in 2010.
