STAPLETON — A collection of local artists will donate their work at an event Friday to raise money to buy musical instruments for Staten Island public schools.

The "Inspired by Us" event will have live painting, a sale of more than 40 artists' work and a documentary premiere. It will raise money for Staten Island Art's LARK Fund, said organizer Chris Reinsch.

"The goal for the night is really to bring together people who were a little less experienced with the more professional group of people that are making a living with art," Reinsch, a studio engineer who runs the Projectivity Movement, said.

"The whole community is very down to talk about how they do their work. My goal for the event is getting people who want to do more with art to see all the different mediums they can use, watch people do it, and actually engage with them."

The event will have live art by Echo1 and Magda Love, sculptures by DB Lampman, stickers by local graffiti artist Chris "RWK" Chillemi and a premiere of the "12 Canvases" film Reinsch worked on.

The idea for the event started when Reinsch was planning a premiere for the movie — which details work of six artists — and decided to use it as an opportunity to bring the arts community together.

"The goal is to kind of create a little door for more cool things to happen," he said. "Hopefully a lot of kids will get some good inspiration, go home and pursue art that much more."

Reinsch teamed up with Kevin Mahoney, part of the Staten Island-based Robots Will Kill graffiti/arts group and website, and the pair reached out to artists asking for help with the event.

"This was really a coming together of as many people as I could involve," Reinsch said. "Seeing all the people that generally do little things or big things on their own on Staten Island come together, it's just a whole big community."

Aside from just donating work, Reinsch said many artists will attend. He scheduled the last half-hour of the event as a meet and greet.

"Inspired by Us" will be on Friday at 5050 Skatepark, 357 Front St., from 6 to 10 p.m. The event will be free, with donations accepted for the LARK Fund.
