QUEENS — Police have arrested a man who they say tried to rape a Queens College student just blocks from his Kew Gardens home earlier this month.

David Diaz, 24, is charged with attempted rape in connection with the Nov. 1 attack on the 23-year-old victim on Melbourne Avenue and Kissena Boulevard, police said.

Diaz allegedly approached the woman from behind around 5:10 a.m., punched her in the back of the head and covered her mouth while threatening her.

He then pushed her to the ground and tried to sexually attack her, before fleeing when a passerby screamed, the NYPD added.
