THE BRONX — With the help of a good Samaritan, police have identified a man who has been lying unconscious in a hospital bed since late October, when he was found on a Norwood D train platform.

Efrain Canales, 56, was only recently identified through an extensive search for information after he was found unconscious about 7:52 p.m. on Oct. 29 in the station near Bainbridge Avenue and East 205th Street, police said.

Canales' daughter, alarmed that her father was missing, posted fliers showing his photo throughout her neighborhood. Robert Ortiz, a local resident, noticed that the photo on the flier looked similar to photos of the unconscious man being distributed by police, the Daily News first reported.

"The daughter I spoke to let me know that she was able to get to the hospital and confirmed that it IS her father. God is awesome!!" Ortiz posted on Facebook Sunday morning.
