Service Changes to Disrupt 16 Subway Lines This Weekend

NEW YORK CITY —Service changes to 16 lines and the Staten Island Railway could make it difficult to enjoy this weekend’s clear skies and warm weather.

Construction and maintenance work, including Sandy recovery work on Brooklyn’s Court Street, will bring changes to the 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, C, E, F, G, J, L, M, N, Q, and R lines as well as Staten Island’s SIR.

Here’s the breakdown per line:

2 Train: All 241st-Street-bound trains will run express between Third Avenue-149th Street and East 180th Street from 6:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

4 Train: No service between Woodlawn and 161st Street-Yankee Stadium from 3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday. Commuters can take the D train and free shuttle busses instead.

For service between 167th, 170th Street, Mount Eden Avenue, 176th Street, Burnside Avenue, 183rd Street, Fordham Road, and Kingsbridge Road use the nearby D stations. The free shuttles will run to and from Bedford Park Boulevard, Mosholu Parkway, and Woodlawn.  

Additionally, the 4 train will run local between Grand Central and Brooklyn Bridge from 12:01 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday.

5 Train: Dyre Avenue-bound trains will run express from 3rd Avenue-149th Street to East 180th Street Saturday from 7:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9:15 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also, trains will run ever 20 minutes between Dyre Avenue and Bowling Green from 5:45 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:45 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Sunday. During that time, all 5 trains will also run local in both directions between Grand Central and Brooklyn Bridge.

6 Train: Pelham Bay Park-bound trains will run express from 3rd Avenue-138th Street to Parkchester from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

7 Train: No service between Main Street and Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. There will be free shuttle buses.

A Train: Brooklyn-bound trains will run express between 168th Street and 125th Street from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

C Train: Brooklyn-bound trains will run express between 168th Street and 125th Street Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

E Train: No service between Jamaica Center and Van Wyck Boulevard between 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Commuters can take the F line between World Trade Center and Van Wyck Boulevard via the F line station at 179th Street. Additionally, free shuttle buses will run between Jamaica Center and Union Turnpike.

Also on the E line, Manhattan-bound trains will run express between Forest Hills-71st Avenue and Queens Plaza from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

F Train: Coney Island-bound trains will be rerouted via the M line from Roosevelt Avenue to 47th-50th Streets between 11:15 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Queens-bound trains will run express between Church Avenue and Smith-9th Streets from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

G Train: Queens-bound trains will run express from Church Avenue to Smith-9th Streets from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

J Train: No service between Essex Street and Chambers Street between 12:45 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday. Commuters can travel to and from the Bowery, Canal Street, and Chambers Street by using the 6 Train. The F and M Trains can be used to connect between Broadway-Lafayette Street and Delancey-Essex Streets.

L Train: No service between 8th Avenue and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Customers can use the A, F, J, and M lines as well as the M14 bus and free shuttles for alternate service.

Free shuttles will run in two sections. One section will stop at DeKalb Avenue, Jefferson Street, Morgan Avenue, Montrose Avenue, Grand Street, and Graham Avenue. The second section will stop at Lorimer Street, Bedford Avenue, Marcy Avenue, Hewes Street, and Broadway.

M Train: Service will be extended to 57th Street F Station between 6 a.m. Saturday to 12:50 a.m. Sunday.

Additionally, M trains will skip Fresh Pond Road from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Commuters can take free loop shuttles to connect between Fresh Pond Road and Forest Avenue Stations.

N Train: No service at Jay Street-Metro Tech, Court Street, Whitehall Street, Rector Street, Cortlandt Street, and City Hall.

Q Train: No service between 57th Street-7th Avenue and Church Avenue from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. The train will stop between Stillwell Avenue and Church Avenue.

Free shuttle buses take commuters to and from Church Avenue and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center stopping at Parkside Avenue, Prospect Park, and 7th Avenue.

People heading to Manhattan can transfer to the D, F, or, N lines at Stillwell Avenue. People heading to Coney Island can take the D or F lines at 34th Herald Square or Atlantic Avenue Barclays Center.

R Train: Manhattan-bound trains will run express from Forest Hills 71st Avenue to Queens Plaza from Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Also, no service at Jay Street-Metro Tech, Court Street, Whitehall Street, Rector Street, Cortlandt Street, and City Hall.

Staten Island Railway: Trains will terminate at the Old Town Station from 6 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between Old Town and St. George Terminal.
