SoHo's Cafe Noir Moving to TriBeCa

By Gustavo Solis | November 7, 2013 4:38pm

SOHO — Café Noir is moving to TriBeCa after anchoring the corner of Grand and Thompson streets for the past 18 years.

The Spanish tapas restaurant closed its doors earlier this month and plans to move just a few blocks away to Lispenard Street, where it will open a "more polished version of the original" in January, the eatery's website said.

“The cuisine at the new Café Noir will transition from the Spanish tapas style to what [owner] Georges Forgeois affectionately calls ‘Gastro Bites,’” said a message written on the restaurant’s website. “[The shift] reflects his passion for local, organic and seasonal ingredients of the highest quality.”

Apart from a revamped menu, the new Café Noir will also adopt a new look. Forgeois plans to revamp the empty one-story building at 35 Lispenard St. by adding six tables, with 22 seats, on the roof.

Forgeois has also started other Manhattan restaurants, including Cercle Rouge, Le Singe Vert, Bar Tabac and Jules Bistro.

The empty spot on Lispenard Street used to be home to Thirty Five, a Thai restaurant.
