PARK SLOPE — Maybe Crazy Eyes did it.
The set of a popular TV series about a women's prison was the victim of a crime that could have been committed by one of its characters, according to a police report.
The Netflix hit series "Orange is the New Black" had just wrapped up a TV shoot in front of Grace United Methodist Church on Seventh Avenue and St. John's Place on Oct. 30, when it was hit by a thief, according to police.
Even as a private security guard was keeping watch, somebody managed to swipe more than $4,000 in five-wire banded cables from the set, police said. The area was open to the public and the cables were laying on the ground, according to the police report.
A woman who answered the phone at the show's production company, Lady Prison Productions, Inc., declined to comment.
Locals spotted trailers for the characters Suzanne (Crazy Eyes) Warren, played by actress Uzo Aduba, and Carol Chapman, played by Deborah Rush, on the set. Actor Jason Biggs was seen during shooting, Park Slope Stoop reported.
"Orange is the New Black" has a connection to Park Slope. Piper Kerman, whose life story inspired the series, lives in the neighborhood and celebrated her release from prison with slices from Pino's La Forchetta pizzeria on Seventh Avenue, she told New York magazine.
Other notable crimes in this week's blotter at the 78th Precinct include the following, with details from police reports:
• A woman had her wallet stolen while she was playing pinball at the Monro Pub on Fifth Avenue and 11th Street on Halloween. The 39-year-old victim was so engrossed in the game that she didn't notice when a thief snatched her $400 Coach wallet out of her purse about 3:20 p.m. The thief used the victim's debit card to buy a $40 MetroCard, then tried unsuccessfully to get cash from an ATM on Seventh Avenue and Berkeley Place.
• A resident of Montgomery Place between Eighth Avenue and Prospect Park West had the wheels and rims stolen off his 2012 gold Cadillac Escalade on Nov. 2. The 52-year-old victim parked his car on the block overnight and returned in the morning to find the passenger side wheels and rims missing.
• An apartment on 11th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues was burglarized when one of the tenants left a back window open while she was at a doctor's appointment. The thief climbed the fire escape and entered and exited the apartment through the open window. The stolen valuables included two laptop computers and a $500 pair of Lanvin cufflinks.
Overall in the 78th Precinct, major crimes have dropped 1.22 percent this year, compared with the same period in 2012, according to the latest NYPD statistics.
