BROOKLYN — The man accused of shooting a 24-year-old mother to death outside her family's Bed-Stuy apartment just days before her birthday was arrested Wednesday in Connecticut, police and prosecutors said.

Corey Brown, 21, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon after a stray bullet he fired hit Nicoleia Taylor, 24, on Oct. 1 while she was visiting her family at the Lafayette Gardens Houses, according to police and witnesses.

Brown, who has been on lam since the shooting, was taken into custody in New Haven at 1:30 p.m. and brought to the 79th Precinct, police and prosecutors said.

“She was a good, hard-working single mother of one," said Taylor's sister, Sheohnna Taylor, after the shooting. "I’m still waiting to wake up from this bad dream."

The slain woman, who worked as a nurse with disabled children, is survived by a 4-year-old son.

Sheohnna said she saw Brown, who she has known for about 10 years, approach the complex with two other men, one of whom passed a gun to Brown.

The sister said she put up her hands to try and stop the shooting.

"I told them, 'Y'all don't have to do this, please don't do this.'"

But shots rang out, and Sheohnna was soon giving CPR to her fallen sister.

"I was trying to talk to her, telling her to stay with me, listen to my voice," Sheohnna said after the shooting.

Brown has five prior arrests including menacing with a weapon, criminal trespass, robbery and reckless endangerment, records show.

"Thank God they got him!!!!!!" Sheohnna posted to the Facebook page set up in her sister's honor, after the arrest. "I knew he couldn't run forever."

He is expected to be arraigned in Brooklyn criminal court Wednesday night.
