QUEENS — This Halloween, Forest Hills residents will have a number of options — from costume contests to pumpkin carving — to celebrate the spooky holiday.

The youngest residents are invited to participate in a Halloween event at Lynne’s Riding School on 70th Road.

Eddie Abraham, also known as Cowboy Eddie, said the celebration is a better option than going door-to-door to ask for candy.

“We want to be a place where the kids can feel safe coming to trick-or-treat as opposed to going from house to house and not knowing where they are,” Abraham said.

During the party, which will start at 4 p.m. and end at 8 p.m., there will be a costume parade and contest, while a group of drummers will play. There will also be pumpkin carving, Abraham said, in addition to grilled hot dogs and corn.

To make the festivities extra spooky, a headless horseman will be providing frights along with a ghost rider on a motorcycle.

The school will also offer free pony rides. The event is free but donations are welcome, Abraham said.

Maspeth Federal Saving Bank, on Metropolitan Avenue, is also organizing a Halloween parade for kids. The parade kicks off at 3:30 p.m. in the bank’s parking lot and will run along Metropolitan Avenue.

Adults can participate in a costume party at The Flying Pig on Austin Street, which will also hold a costume contest, said Declan Morrison, the pub's owner.

The pub has also introduced a number of seasonal beers, including Samuel Adams Fat Jack pumpkin ale, Smuttynose pumpkin ale and pumple drumkin spiced ale from Cisco Brewers.

Customers in costumes will be treated with a free dessert at My Kitchen on Metropolitan Avenue.

Some businesses, like Oliloli Arts and Crafts studio on Metropolitan Avenue, will have candy for the kids.

The frightening festivities come as a number of pubs and restaurants introduced a fall menu.

Banter Irish Bar and Kitchen on Queens Boulevard is now serving “heartier, wintery” dishes, according to Michael Mansfield, one of the owners, including lamb shank and fillet of pork.

Patrons can wash down their meals with some seasonal suds, including Newcastle Werewolf "Blood Red Ale," a Halloween-themed beer, as well as Brooklyn Brewery post road pumpkin ale, served with cinnamon, Mansfield said.

Pumpkin decorated Forest Hills Station House on Continental Avenue also serves a number of seasonal beers, including 21st Amendment/Elysian He Said pumpkin tripel and Ithaca country pumpkin ale.
