SOUTH STREET SEAPORT — After four months of serving tasty bites — and booze — to the South Street Seaport, SmorgasBar closed for the season on Sunday.

The Brooklyn Flea-curated food court and beer garden — which featured 10 vendors cooking lobster rolls, oysters, grilled cheese, hot dogs with Asian-style toppings, maple bacon sticks and more along cobblestoned Front Street — launched on Memorial Day.

The food stalls were part of Seaport owner Howard Hughes Corporation's larger See/Change effort, a program of events and pop-up shops to help revitalize the storm-battered neighborhood after Hurricane Sandy.

"We were happy and proud to be part of See/Change and to bring fresh life to the Seaport quickly in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, which was everyone's original intention," said Brooklyn Flea co-founder Eric Demby in an emailed statement. "The Front St. food and bar area felt like it had been there forever, and it was almost European in its open-air simplicity."

Demby said the market's owners are in talks with Howard Hughes to come back to the Seaport, though nothing has been confirmed yet.

"We look forward to an even better 2014, armed as we now are with the experience of this summer," Demby said.

Howard Hughes also said the company hopes to bring SmorgasBar back next year.

"We had a great partnership with SmorgasBar, and look forward to welcoming them back again next summer," a Howard Hughes spokesman said.
