DUMBO — Smorgasburg is moving out of DUMBO's Tobacco Warehouse and making a new home at Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The popular food flea market's move will make way for local theater group, St. Ann's Warehouse, to develop a new performance space in the aging red brick structure.

"We've always known this move was coming, as St. Ann's Warehouse is moving into its new permanent home at Tobacco and that plan has been in motion for years now," said Smorgasburg founder Eric Demby. "We had a great run at such a perfect setting, and that's partly because it was always a temporary situation."

Smorgasburg has hosted food trucks serving culinary creations like We Rub You's Korean style steak & eggs, Regal Vegan's meatless version of banh mi and Asia Dog's spicy ketchup and potato chip hot dog in the inner courtyard of the warehouse since the fall of 2012.

But Demby is excited to move on.

"We are actually quite eager about the new Pier 5 spot, as folks from Cobble Hill, Red Hook, and the Heights will have easier access to Smorg," he said. "And we love that end of the park and feel like people will get a chance to see more of Brooklyn Bridge Park with this move."

Smorgasburg will open shop in the uplands of Pier 5 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Sunday, Oct. 6.
