SUNNYSIDE — Police are investigating the beating of a man in a Queens park after he died from his injuries five days after the attack.

The 42-year-old victim was found unconscious in Sabba Park in Sunnyside on the morning of Sept. 7 with trauma to his head and face, an NYPD spokesman said.

He was brought to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries on Sept. 12, according to police.

At a community council meeting last week, Capt. Brian Hennessy of the 108th Precinct said the victim was assaulted after being approached by three men while he was sitting on a bench in the park. No weapons were used in the attack, Hennessy said.

The motive for the attack was not immediately clear and no description of the attackers was available.

Police said there have been no arrests in the incident. The victim's name is being withheld pending family notification, cops said.

The death is the fourth homicide in the 108th Precinct this year, up from two murders by this time last year, according to NYPD statistics.

There has been an arrest in only one of the four homicides in 2013, Hennessy said. In that incident, a man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend in her home on 46th Street in July.
