RED HOOK — Red Hook has never tasted so good.

The neighborhood’s culinary fest is back for its seventh year with “Taste of Red Hook,” a one-day fundraising event for Red Hook Initiative, a local nonprofit.

“It’s just really a community-based event,” said Frances Medina, executive coordinator of the nonprofit.

As the organization’s sole fundraiser, they focus all their attention on the event, which will be held Oct. 22 at Pioneer Works, located at 159 Pioneer St.

The Taste of Red Hook partners with local restaurants to create a culinary event with several Red Hook and Brooklyn-based eateries, including Baked, Brooklyn Crab, Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pie, Fort Defiance, Good Fork, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Court Street Grocers and Smith Canteen, among others.

Along with tastings, a silent auction will be conducted for designer bags, dresses and gift certificates to local businesses.

In 2012, Red Hook Initiative raised $75,000 but this year, their goal is $125,000, said Medina, adding that funds will benefit the nonprofit’s programs that include education and youth development in Red Hook.

Tickets are priced at three levels of donation tiers: $150, $250, $500.

Aside from the tastings, the best part of “Taste of Red Hook” is “being in one room with all of Red Hook’s gems,” said Medina.
