Orchestra of St. Luke's Opens 2013-'14 Season with Free 'Subway Series'

MIDTOWN — New York's acclaimed Orchestra of St. Luke's opened its 2013-14 season Saturday, kicking off a "Subway Series" of free shows in each of the five boroughs.

The 21-member ensemble, which first started playing in Greenwich Village in 1974, will be playing in venues as varied as Carnegie Hall and Brooklyn Bridge Park, performing works that range from baroque to contemporary.

The weeklong Subway Series opened with performances at Wave Hill in The Bronx on Saturday and the Queens Botanical Garden on Sunday. The ensemble will next play on Tuesday with a free performance in Bryant Park, followed by the final two Subway Series shows at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Friday and the Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Staten Island on Saturday.
