RED HOOK — Fort Defiance, a popular restaurant and bar in the neighborhood, has brought back its famous muffulettas.

After two long years, owner St. John Frizell is putting the traditional New Orleans sandwich back on the menu, Grubstreet first reported.

Frizell stopped serving the sandwich in 2011, because the bakery that supplied the restaurant "didn’t feel like making the focaccia-like bread" anymore, according to Grubstreet.

Frizell recently found a suitable alternative at Caputo's bakery in Carroll Gardens and decided to bring back the $12 muffuletta.

The sandwich is made with Fra'Mani mortadella, coppa, salami, slices of Emmental and provolone cheese, and olive salad, the website reported.

Fort Defiance did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The bar, located at 365 Van Brunt Street, also launched a vintage tiki cocktail menu filled with classic and original tropical drinks.
