RED HOOK — A national nonprofit that repairs and renovates homes-in-need is looking to stay closer to the Red Hook community after moving their Manhattan offices to Van Brunt Street.

Rebuilding Together” is an organization providing free “critical home repair and modification services” for low-income homeowners across the country.

Since Hurricane Sandy struck the city last year, the organization has revitalized two neighborhood homes and the community space of Veterans of Foreign War, said Melissa Stucki, program coordinator at the new Brooklyn office, located at 285 Van Brunt St.

“Our goal is to make the home safe, healthy, accessible [and] dry,” said Stucki.

The nonprofit, working in New York City since 2007, specializes in complete renovations and also making homes accessible for elderly and disabled residents.

Rebuilding Together will now be closer to Sandy-affected locals, their primary clients in the neighborhood, making them more reachable for site visits and meetings, said Stucki.

Citywide, Stucki added that the organization has renovated about 15 Sandy-related projects in the last year.

Rebuilding Together will host an open house on Sept. 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for the community to learn about their work and upcoming volunteer opportunities.
