MEATPACKING DISTRICT — Eye-catching designers The Blonds looked to the skies for inspiration for their latest collection.
For a brand already well-known for showmanship, exquisite corsetry and crystals, The Blonds' Fashion Week Spring 2014 did not disappoint — the clothes were very sexy, and all about whimsical fun, with a retro-futuristic "out-of-this-world" theme running through the collection. The shoes throughout the collection were custom-made by Christian Louboutin.
The music echoed the outer space concept — featuring a remixed Star Trek theme as well as the title song from the cult film "Barbarella," sung by The Glitterhouse.
Phillipe and David Blond's downtown New York label has designed knock-out corsets for Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez and Barbie, and Wednesday night's show was not short on celebrity.
Tyra Banks and Paris Hilton were present, clad in Blonds corsets, and Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir and a galaxy of downtown nightlife fixtures were in attendance, including Amanda Lepore, Lady Bunny and Michael Musto.
The colors of this collection were right on trend with what we have been seeing all Fashion Week; strong blues, orange, white and yellow being a bold statement in this particular collection.
These stood out in a volume feather cape, a Tweety Bird corset and a very stylish neoprene trench.
