QUEENS — The Forest Hills culinary scene has just lost one of its flavors.

Just Like Mother’s, which has served traditional Polish food, including kielbasa, stuffed cabbage and white borscht, to hungry patrons in the neighborhood for more than a decade, closed last week.

“We regretfully inform you, that due to not being able to reach an agreement with our landlord, Just Like Mother’s Restaurant is closed,” the owners wrote in a note posted on the entrance gate of the restaurant.

“Thank you for your patronage over the years."

It was not immediately clear what the fight was over.

Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce President Leslie Brown said the restaurant, at 110-60 Queens Blvd., has been around for at least 15 years.

“It was home-style cooking and it was very popular," she said. "Many people would go there after church."

Brown said Forest Hills' other Polish restaurant, which had been located on Austin Street, closed about 20 years ago.

Alexa Weitzman, who runs the Tuv Ha'aretz community supported agriculture group in Forest Hills, was a longtime customer. She said that on Sunday she had wanted to have brunch at Just Like Mother's with friends.

"We were so sad to see the sign," said Weitzman, adding that she has been coming to the restaurant for many years for its pierogis and blintzes. "I hope they will find another location," she said.

Neither the owners of the restaurant nor the landlord were immediately available for comment.
