FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A Downtown woman was mugged last week by two young thieves who were after her iPad, police said.

The 30-year-old victim was approached by two women about 4:45 p.m. Aug. 21 as she walked along Maiden Lane at South Street with her iPad under her arm, according to the criminal complaint.

The women slammed the victim into a truck, knocked her to the ground and then pried the iPad away from her, she told police.

Both of the alleged robbers quickly ran off, but one, Starmaisha Janeppe, 20, was soon arrested by police. The other unnamed accomplice escaped with the stolen iPad, according to police reports.

Janeppe was charged with one count of second-degree robbery. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison.

She’s due back in court on Dec. 5.

Janeppe’s lawyer did not immediately return calls for comment.
