FORT GREENE — This year's Afropunk Fest lineup has been announced with Public Enemy's Chuck D alongside DJ Lord and Philadelphia’s most influential hip-hop drummer and DJ Questlove headlining the two-day event.

Afropunk Fest is the nation's premier festival for alternative black music and draws thousands of people annually to its two stages in Fort Greene's Commodore Barry Park. Last year's event featured hip-hop legends Erykah Badu and Mos Def.

"Come to AFROPUNK FEST 2013 this summer and sweat, skate, mosh, shout," organizers said in a statement. "Feel the music, free your mind, join the movement.”

This year festival goers can also catch Jada Pinkett Smith's band Wicked Wisdom and Brooklyn-based teenage band The Skins.

The popular festival was started in 2003 by Matthew Morgan and James Spooner, both music industry insiders, who wanted to "give a voice to thousands of multi-cultural kids fiercely identifying with a lifestyle path-less-traveled." Today people from all over the world travel to the festival to enjoy the indie black music scene.

This year's full lineup includes Chuck D & DJ Lord, Questlove, DEATH, The Heavy, Trash Talk, Danny Brown, Saul Williams, Theophilus London, Vintage Trouble, The London Souls, The Coup, Mykki Blanco, K-OS, Big Freedia, Rye Rye, LE1F, Jean Grae, CX Kidtronik, The Dust Rays, The Skins, Meatloaf Muzik, Rebelmatic, Unlocking The Truth, Living Colour, Wicked Wisdom, White Mandingo’s, Pyyramids, and Sunny Gang.

Afropunk Fest takes place Aug. 24 and 25 in Commodore Barry Park. The festival also features over 26 food trucks, a skate park, a thrift market and a custom bike show by Brooklyn Rhapsody.

Admission is free.
