EAST VILLAGE — A popular, young East Village native who passed away last week was being memorialized where he lived and worked on Saturday.

John Blanco, 27, died after crashing his motorcycle early the morning of Aug. 1, according to the blog EV Grieve.

Blanco worked as a bouncer at Croxley Ales, at 28 Avenue B, where a number of candles and flowers were set up in his honor this weekend. Around the corner, on Avenue D at East 5th Street, a swell of candles, flowers and written tributes took over a storefront's worth of sidewalk.

"He was a great person, very loveable," neighbor Sonja Cancel said. Cancel said she lived in the same building as Blanco and his mother and had known him since he was a young child.

Other written remembrances marked Blanco as their favorite bouncer.

"Now you can enjoy riding (your) motorcycle, just follow the clouds to everlasting peace," another wrote.

A service for Blanco was held last weekend.
