UPPER WEST SIDE — Free kayak rentals are heading back to the Hudson River at West 72nd Street this weekend, after repairs were made to the Hurricane Sandy-damaged dock.

"We’re open!" Downtown Boathouse, which runs the free kayak program, announced on its website. "72 St. will be open for free kayaking Sunday, August 11, 10am to 5pm. Last boat, 4:30."

The dock was heavily damaged during Hurricane Sandy and the Parks Department replaced it this July, City Councilwoman Gale Brewer said. This weekend's opening was first reported by West Side Rag.

The line for kayak rentals gets long on nice days, so Downtown Boathouse advises boaters to arrive early.
