LONG ISLAND CITY — Dancers will grace a stage on the East River this month for a new summer series at Socrates Sculpture Park.

"Dance at Socrates" is a partnership with the collaborative arts group Norte Maar, and brings a different group of professional, New York-based choreographers and their dancers to the park each week, where they practice in full view of the public on a newly constructed stage.

Park-goers who come to see Socrates' outdoor sculptures and installations during the week will also be able to watch the performers as they prepare for a formal recital, which will take place every Saturday this month at 3 p.m.

"The water’s edge at Socrates Sculpture Park creates a magical setting that has inspired visual artists for more than two decades," John Hatfield, the park's director, said in a press release.

"For Dance at Socrates, Norte Maar has selected four extraordinary choreographers whose unique styles will activate the park every day in August. We are pleased to make that process transparent for all visitors, and eager to experience the newly completed works every Saturday."
