ROCKAWAY BEACH — Pack your swimsuit and shovels, and head down to the beach Friday to watch a group of artists battle it out to see who can create create the best — and most creative — castle in the sand.

Creative Time's second-annual sandcastle competition is heading back to Rockaway Beach on August 9.

“Last year was a huge success and a lot of fun,” said Jessica Shaefer, Creative Time’s Director of Communications.

The company has organized ambitious outdoor art projects for four decades, including the Tribute in Light in Lower Manhattan. This year's event, according to the organizers, is a chance to have a little fun.

Ten artists — including David Brooks, Esperanza Mayobre, Rachel Owens and Marc Andre Robinson — have been selected to participate in the competition.

The castle building begins at 2 p.m., and the public is invited to watch as the artists create their masterpieces.

Local food spots like Rockaway Taco, Caracas and DiCosmo's Ices will be around offering food for spectators and participants.

The judging starts at 5 p.m., and there will be an after-party at Rippers at Beach 86th Street that’s free and open to the public.

This year’s judges include Klaus Biesenbach, curator at MoMA P.S 1; artist and designer Waris Ahluwalia; and Jen Catron and Paul Outlaw, who won last year’s contest.

The contest is sponsored by Melissa Shoes and Société Perrier, with support from Rockabus and Veggie Island.
