EAST VILLAGE — Blue Ribbon's famous fried chicken is headed to the East Village.
The Bromberg brothers, the chefs behind the city's Blue Ribbon chain of eateries, are set to open an "all-chicken" restaurant this week at Second Avenue and East First Street, highlighting one of the most popular menu items at their other locations.
Called Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken, the 65-seat space will give fans their first chance to get a la carte pieces of the Brombergs' Southern-style fried chicken, along with a four-piece fried chicken dinner served with rosemary bread, pickled cucumbers and fries.
Since chefs Bruce and Eric Bromberg opened their first Blue Ribbon restaurant in 1992 in SoHo, the brand has expanded with more than a dozen locations featuring a range of themes, including sushi and baked goods.
At many of the other restaurants, the fried chicken is a menu staple — but the new East Village spot is the first time it will take center stage.
The chicken, familiar to patrons of Blue Ribbon's Brooklyn Bowl location, comes with a choice of golden honey, mustard honey, chipotle honey or Blue Ribbon's own barbecue sauce.
Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken will also offer chicken burgers, including "The Pit," with sharp cheddar, smoked bacon and barbecue sauce.
The few non-chicken options include sides such as pickled cucumbers and fried dilly beans.
The eatery was scheduled to open Aug. 5 but was briefly delayed and is now set to open mid-week, representatives said.
