RED HOOK — The hogs are coming to Brooklyn.

The fourth annual pork-filled food festival, "Pig Island," will be held on the Red Hook waterfront, next month, featuring appetizers, barbecue, desserts and much more – all with a porky twist, organizers confirmed.

Using about 60 locally sourced hogs, more than 25 chefs will create dozens of dishes in the outdoor food event that will also serve craft beers from Sixpoint and New York State wines and hard ciders.

“It’s not just pigs cooking outside,” said Jimmy Carbone, founder of Food Karma Projects that produces food and media events, including Pig Island.

This walk-around culinary festival, which will also feature live music and vegetarian stations, will be held on Sept. 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and hosted on the Ikea waterfront, located at 1 Beard St., Carbone said.

Carbone decided to bring Pig Island to Red Hook after the devastation from Hurricane Sandy, last year, left the neighborhood reeling, he said.

“Sandy hurt a lot of businesses,” he said.

Along with benefiting Red Hook, Carbone will be teaming up with local restaurants and community groups as well as donating a portion of their proceeds to Added Value, a nonprofit organization that promotes sustainable development and has built two urban farms in the neighborhood, said Carbone.

An e-book for home cooks with a history of Pig Island and its recipes will be released in collaboration with the festival. An early bird ticket entitles you to a copy of the digital book.

Chefs and barbecue pit masters will join the pig-eating event, including King Phojanakong from Kuma Inn and Umi Nom and Joe Dobias from JoeDoe, cooking up pigs from local farms like Flying Pigs Farm, Møsfund Mangalitsa, and Bobolink, among others.
