WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A robber snatched an iPhone off a commuter last week at the West 157th Street 1 train station, the site of several crimes in the last year, police said.

The robbery took place at approximately 2:15 p.m., when police said the suspect approached the victim, who was waiting on the subway platform, and grabbed the phone from the person's hand before fleeing the station.

The incident makes it the second cell snatching at the station this year and third in the last 13 months.

The suspect is described as a man between the ages of 18 and 25 standing between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-9, police said. The suspect was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black sweater.

In addition to the July 25 incident, two other women had their phones stolen in May of this year and July 2012. Another man was attacked there by nunchuck-weilding teenagers in January.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). All calls are strictly confidential.
