FLATIRON — Express recently became the latest Fifth Avenue shop to close for a summer makeover, following a string of other chain clothing stores also temporarily shutting down.

The shuttered shops along a span of five blocks of Fifth Avenue, between 17th and 22nd streets, have put signs in their windows saying they will reopen this fall.

Zara, at 101 Fifth Ave, Express, at 130 Fifth Ave., Club Monaco, at 160 Fifth Ave. and C. Wonder at Fifth Avenue and 22nd Street have all closed over the past six months.

“Our Fifth Avenue store is being renovated,” said a sign in the window of Club Monaco, which closed on May 13.

Express put up signs telling potential customers about a newly renovated store coming this fall.

A few blocks north, near 22nd Street, C. Wonder, a women’s clothing and home goods pop-up store that opened during the winter holidays, closed in January to renovate the space into a permanent store.

"This location was originally opened as a pop-up shop,” said a spokeswoman for C. Wonder. “We are planning to reopen this fall as a permanent location."

Zara, Club Monaco and Express did not immediately respond to calls for comment.
